What is SEO?

What is search engine optimization? How does SEO work? And why should you even bother with it?

Every day, 5.6 billion search queries are typed into Google’s search slot. 86% of all users click only on the results on the first page. Websites, that are not listed here, are virtually invisible.
SEO encompasses all measures that lead to a website achieving better rankings on the search result pages (SERPs) of Google & Co. There is a secret, complicated algorithm behind the ranking of the search results by Google, which tries to show the best results for each individual search query.

More than 200 ranking factors with different weightings determine how the search results page is ultimately composed. While nobody knows exactly what those factors are, we can use what we do know to improve the visibility of your site.

Put simply, we have three major levers at our disposal for this: relevance, popularity and user experience. You usually get to page 1 through improved relevance and popularity. Once you are there, the third lever comes into play: the user experience.

The goal
SEO makes your website better. Both for visitors and search engines.

The 3 levers for better rankings

Relevance

Relevance primarily refers to the content of a page. Google tries to understand the user’s question, by not just focusing on the wording along, but on the intent behind the search. Then, Google shows those documents in the search results, that have the most relevant content and best satisfy the user’s intent.

Popularity

Popularity is calculated from backlinks: how many other pages link to a specific document. The more links a page gets, the more authority it has. The number of links is not the only important factor here. The quality – that is, how much authority the link-providing page itself has – and the thematic relevance are of even greater importance.

User experience

Now that we have managed to get to the first page of Google through relevance and popularity, the third big factor comes into play: the user experience. How satisfied are users with the results that Google shows them?
Google uses artificial intelligence, the so-called RankBrain algorithm, to calculate the user experience. Google uses this to measure how happy users are with a particular page. If a large number of users are obviously dissatisfied with a certain result, which is expressed, for example, in a high bounce-back rate, the affected page drops in the search results and can also disappear entirely from the coveted first page.

The process of an SEO project

SEO is not a one-time thing, but a continuous process. In order to achieve long-term success, continuous development of your content and ongoing optimization of your site are important.

Nevertheless, we usually start every SEO project with an initial phase in which we analyze your web presence in detail and develop strategies to best reach your target audience. Even though each project is unique, there are usually 4 areas that we as an SEO agency cover in the initial phase of each project.

These four areas are:

  • Keyword research & strategy
  • Onpage SEO Audit & Optimization
  • Offpage SEO Analysis & Strategy
  • Tracking Setup

We take care of all technical, structural and content-related aspects of your website so that you have the best and most relevant answers for your target audience, with the goal of getting ranked at the top by Google.

Keyword research & strategy

We start every SEO project with the development of a meaningful keyword strategy.

First comes the definition of your target audience:

  • Who are your potential customers?
  • What problems, interests and questions do they have?
  • What language and terms do they use?

When we know who we want to address, we start with a keyword brainstorming: we don’t want to know how you describe your product, but how potential customers would look for it.

We research which keywords come into question, how often they are searched at all (search volume), and what kind of content the searchers expect (intention). Additionally, we find out how difficult it is to rank for relevant keywords. An analysis of your competitors’ websites shows which search terms (keywords) they target and how difficult it will be for us to beat them.

In the end, we have our keyword strategy: we know exactly which topics, questions and search phrases we want to cover, which pages of the website we want to rank with and what additional content we need to build.

Understand HOW your customers search to determine for WHICH keywords your site should rank with WHAT content.

Onpage SEO

Onpage SEO encompasses all work that happens on your website itself. This includes all technical, structural and content-related aspects. We help Google to crawl, index and understand your website correctly in order to rank it at the top.

A technically perfect and well-structured website is the basis for good rankings. If there are problems here, further SEO measures can be completely in vain.

Technology

We analyze all SEO-relevant technical aspects of your website, make concrete suggestions for solving problems fix them directly in your content management system: From meta tags and the use of semantic markups to improving loading times and language markup on multilingual websites.

Structure

The structure of your website as a whole, i.e. the information architecture, as well as the structure of individual pages are highly relevant for search engine optimization. Which pages exist, where are they located within the website and through which ways can visitors and search engines reach them?

Content

But the function of technology and structure is only to support what is really important: the content.
Based on our keyword strategy, we define which existing content needs to be optimized and which content needs to be newly created in order to rank for relevant search queries.

The texts on your site should not only be unique, but above all focus on the user and his needs. Because search engines prefer content that they expect users to be happy with.

On-Page SEO
A technically clean, fast loading, crawler-accessible and indexable website as a platform for your content.

Tell us about your project

We support you in the creation of optimized content for your website, with guest contributions for link building and in the training of your copywriters. We will also be happy to help you find topics and formulate content that is suitable for both, your target audience and search engines.

Offpage SEO

Off-page SEO is the term used to describe all activities that take place outside your own website. The focus lies mainly on links from other websites as well as mentions of your brand on the web.

We analyze the existing backlink profile of your website, define strengths and weaknesses and try to save the value of “lost” links by setting redirects.

We also analyze the backlinks of your competitors. From this, we can not only assess the strength of the competition, but also deduce what our goals are: How many links, of what quality, do we need to build in order to beat them. We also get ideas for niche-typical link sources in order to use these resources for you.

Finally, we create a strategy for building new, high-quality backlinks. The strategy includes where and, above all, how we can get such links.

We focus on qualitative link building and only create links that really add value for you.

Your pages and content gain a valuable authority on the web. They are mentioned and referenced on numerous other relevant sites.

Analysis & Tracking Setup

In order to be able to understand the effects of the implemented SEO measures, it is important to have a functioning analysis & tracking setup that provides clean data.

This gives us with all the data we need to make important and, above all, correct decisions.

To make the performance of the website on Google measurable, we use the Google Search Console as well as other SEO tools. These help us track how the visibility of our keyword sets develops over time.

With Google Analytics we track the traffic on your website, so we can see which visitors come to your site via search engines and how they behave. We define useful actions – in addition to simple page views – that visitors can perform on the website and track them as events and goal conversions.

Ongoing SEO measures

Once the initial optimization is complete, we evaluate the results and define further measures to support long-term success.

The two areas with the greatest potential for ongoing optimization are firstly a solid content strategy and secondly the creation of new backlinks.

The goal is to increase the visibility of a website in the long term. As one of the leading SEO agencies in Vienna, we would be happy to support you in this.

Ongoing SEO
SEO is not a sprint, but a marathon. Our goal is a sustainable increase of rankings and traffic.

This is how SEO marketing projects work with us.

Every SEO project is different: target groups, markets, budgets. For us it is very important that we are successful with the projects we take on. That’s why we assess in advance whether we can achieve the goals with the means at our disposal.

Please send us an inquiry with your website, your goals and your main competitors. We will take a close look at your case, contact you with further questions and clarify important key points. It often makes sense to have a free initial consultation.

When we offer a project, we do so only with high motivation, belief in success and interest in your market.

We look forward to your inquiry and to a new challenge!

We have SEO expertise in the following areas:
